From Fat to Fabulous - How to dress up for Zumba

I am finally back on track yaaay! It was an eventful, fitness filled week! My Zumba classes have begun but that experience will be shared next week after some more serious sweating. One thing that does take priority this week is "WHAT TO WEAR" for Zumba (similar workout routines. Believe me ladies many of us have it all wrong and I will tell you why!

The BBRC studio is super spacious and I love the environment. I started my Zumba classes at BBRC but will discuss that in detail in my next post when I have gained some (insight and experience) and lost some (weight hopefully). The initial week, however, lead to the following understanding(s):

1. Working out is NO FUN and GAMES! You really do need to WORK hard. Nothing comes to you easily

2. It's asy it is to gain weight and hard to loose it, but NOT IMPOSSIBLE

3. We all think that we are healthy only because we are not FAT but five minutes into the workout you will realize "OMG I need to get my self together! My stamina is not as high as it was when I was a Kid"....Seriously, Staying in shape has nothing to do with your Actual shape, exercise is for a better, healthier you!

4. You dont STARVE to loose weight specially if you workout everyday. Your body needs fuel to burn and goes into a coma mode when you don't provide it enough fuel (food) which actually leads to your body NOT burning any fat out of fear...EEEK!

5. People can wear the most RIDICULOUS things to Gym/Workout! -___0 Mindblown!

What to Wear to Zumba Workout:


NO its not ok to just wear anything when you are working out. There are valid reasons and I have even experienced one of them.

1. SHOES are VERY important. High Performance Workout like Zumba, Aerobic etc, require comfortable, light and breathable workout trainers which have base support and are not running sneakers or trainers. The ideal choice are Bloch Amalgam which sadly are not easily available in Pakistan. You can get Aerobics shoes or joggers from Nike or any brand of your choice. I was running late so got my black and pink trainers from BATA and was actually pleasantly surprised :)

2. OUTER WEAR cannot be Tight Jeans, Cotton (you don't need too much sweat absorption as it can lead to skin irritation) or Shalwar Kameez. High Performance workouts require breathable, Flexible clothes with moisture wicking fabric like jersey or any mixed material which is stretchable. Jersey tights or tracks are good. Sleeveless or half sleeve tops are good, long sleeves may get in the way. The same goes for loose pants or pallazos, you don't want to trip and fall on your face
3. BE DECENT and try NOT to wear something that is not "fitting" you for the sake of your own self image. Better to wear something loose and comfortable than wearing yoga pants or crop tops. Zumba requires a lot of jumping, bouncing, and moving around so do the math.







4. INNER WEAR is all about support (for men and women). Thongs are a Big NO! No one "butt" you will be responsible for your own discomfort. I got a TriAction Extreme Sports Bra from Triumph which is working out really well for me (see image on the left). It's comfortable with a smooth, seam-free cup. It is quite low cut at the front so sits well under lower sports tops or shirts. The shoulder straps are slightly padded, increasing comfort and it gives excellent support in all sizes.



HEALTHY FOOD SHARE:

1. Grapes are great for snacks in between meals BUT it is also important not to gorge either. Understand portions and calorie intake because what may look harmless can ruin your total calorie limit...ouch! While snacking on some grapes I made a discovery: Every 100 gm of grapes are equal to approx 69 calories.

2. Pomegranates can add a zing to any Salad. I made this salad for lunch and it was not only filling (I didnt feel hungry till dinner!) but also super yummy. All it had was chopped raw cucumbers, beetroot, carrots,, Iceberg lettuce, teaspoon of Ranch dressing, black pepper and a handful of pomegranates and boiled green peas. The result was delicious and healthy with approx calorie intake of 200 for a big bowl full.
